Chelmsford, Mass. SKY Computers Inc. has released the LightningBolt family of embedded computers. Touted as the next-generation embedded computer that delivers unprecedented levels of scalability, reliability and price/performance for demanding applications, the 6U LightningBolt VME boards are deployment ready for harsh environments.
The LightningBolt uses the 1.2-GHz Power PC MPC 7448 microprocessor and the ANSI/VITA standard SKYchannel interconnect fabric. The advanced SKYvec software development environment provides tools to simplify complex multiprocessor programming. The 6U LightningBolt is configured with one compute module of four MPC7448s and one optional I/O module. It's fully compatible with SKY's previous SKYbolt family of products for easy upgrades.
Key features include 38.4 GFLOPS per 6U VME slot, fast boot time of less than 10 seconds for start up and initialization, up to 64 processors/system, and up to 2 GB SDRAM per 6U module.
Pricing: Starts in the low $20s; quantity discounts are available.
Availability: Shipping in the third quarter of 2008.
