San Jose and Palo Alto — CoWare and Agility Design Solutions have announced a new strategic relationship. CoWare will now support integration of C models generated with Agility's MATLAB to C tools. In addition, CoWare will become a "value-added" reseller of Agility products in Japan.
CoWare's Signal Processing Designer already supports MATLAB co-simulation by making calls to the MATLAB engine. MATLAB code is slow to execute however, as MATLAB is an interpreted (not compiled) language, and passing variables to and from a MATLAB workspace creates computational overhead. By swapping out a MATLAB model for an equivalent C model generated by Agility's tools, the companies claim designers can speed up their design simulations 3X or more for typical cases. The companies see this speed up as particularly useful for designers of new, complex wireless standards such as 3GPP Long-Term Evolution (LTE), where many design teams are now transitioning from research in MATLAB to production design efforts.
